GTUYTP STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2022 (IYD)

As we observe IYD 2022, we must also challenge Government to prioritize the development of young people in the teaching profession. This should include but not be limited to providing scholarships for them to develop themselves academically, reviewing policies to ensure deserving young teachers are promoted to different cadres in the Establishment as well as improving their socioeconomic welfare through incentives and allowances that commensurate the very challenging conditions they perform their duties.

GTU TRAINS EDUSA ON SANITARY PAD MAKING

As campaigns for increasing awareness on mensural hygiene intensify, The Gambia Teachers’ Union on Friday 24th June 2022 trained 20 students from the School of Education of the University of The Gambia on the making of reusable sanitary pads.

The training is part of the union and partners drive to promote the making and availability of sanitary pads to women and girls during their mensural cycle.

According to reports, school going children skip school during their mensural periods due to several factors including lack of access to sanitary pads. Therefore, it is hoped the training of the would-be teachers will helped widened the knowledge sharing on the making and use of pads.

Experts familiar with the making and use of the reusable sanitary pads have posited that, the pads are environmentally friendly, easily accessible and healthy to use.
