The Gambia Teachers’ Union has gathered 25 headteachers/principals from Regions 3 and 4 on a day orientation on the GTU-CTF Fund for Innovation and Transformation(FIT) project.
The orientation underway at Mansakonko is meant to inform the school officials about the project and their roles in supporting the project.
The ‘FIT Project’, meant to support 48 young women teachers from RED 3 to 6 under 5 years teaching experience matched with 12 Mentors working in remote areas through Mentoring and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The rationale is that women teachers leave the profession because of isolation and disconnection.

Project Officer Essa Sowe informed the participants on the basics of the project while highlighting that the project is meant to “encourage unions to innovate and transform lives.” He encouraged the headteachers to be of service and guidance to the chosen mentees in their respective schools.
