GTUYTP STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2022 (IYD)

As we observe IYD 2022, we must also challenge Government to prioritize the development of young people in the teaching profession. This should include but not be limited to providing scholarships for them to develop themselves academically, reviewing policies to ensure deserving young teachers are promoted to different cadres in the Establishment as well as improving their socioeconomic welfare through incentives and allowances that commensurate the very challenging conditions they perform their duties.

GTU ORGANIZES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR YOUNG TEACHER LEADERS

The  Gambia Teachers’ Union-GTU is on a three-day Summer Professional Development Training for Forty young teacher leaders is at the Regional Education Directorate 6.

The training underway in the Upper River Region from the 21st-23rd July 2022 is  through support from the Canadian Teacher Federation-CTF.

In her opening statement, the General Secretary of The Gambia Teachers’ Union, Marie Antoinette Corr, renewed the GTU’s commitment to providing training that will impact the life of the members. She encouraged participants to make the best use of the training session while hailing the partnership the union enjoys with the CTF.

During the three-days training, participant will be trained on leadership, communication skills,  Gender equality, occupational health and safety, trade union education, gender-based violence, climate change, school development and planning.

It is hoped that after the training, participants will be equipped with the requisite skills to effectively function in their various leadership positions.
